Stirling Women’s Centre The Stirling Women’s Centre provides crisis accommodation for women and children escaping family and domestic violence. The Centre operates the North East Metro Safe at Home Program for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence who wish to remain in their own homes when it is safe to do so, and facilitates the Serene Centre Program providing a variety of workshops to empower women and children through education. Please phone the Stirling Women’s Centre on (08) 9205 7375 for assistance. Signs Signs advertising a business or product in public places are prohibited in the City of Stirling and may be impounded by Rangers. City approval must be sought before placing a sign for an upcoming event or sporting registration. Smoke The City of Stirling encourages residents to minimise the amount of smoke coming from wood heaters to help cut down on pollution. The following measures can help minimise smoke as well as reduce the maintenance and running costs of your wood heater: • Burn dry, seasoned, untreated wood • Stack wood under cover in a dry, ventilated area • Use small logs • Burn the fire brightly • Have a flame if burning overnight. Snakes The City’s Natural Areas conservation team remove snakes from parks, community centres and other city managed property. For assistance please contact the Customer Contact Centre. The City of Stirling does not handle snake removal from private property. Please contact WildCare on (08) 9474 9055 if assistance is required. Snakes come out of hibernation during late spring and can be encountered in natural areas such as bushlands, around lakes and wetlands and on coastal dunes. Sometimes snakes make their way into backyards, usually in search of prey such as rats and mice. If you encounter any snake, do not attempt to pick it up or touch it. If found in your private garden of backyard, quietly go inside and call a
