WAAPA in the Park

A significant project for the City, RMS will transform the way we do business with our customers by digitally upgrading dozens of processes so they can be lodged, managed and tracked more efficiently. The Stirling City Centre project – covering the area from Karrinyup Road, along Cedric Street and Ellen Stirling Boulevard to Scarborough Beach Road – is a strategic priority this year. Significant development will take place in 2019, leading towards the creation of Perth’s second CBD. The construction of the Stephenson Avenue extension will get underway to greatly improve accessibility and reduce congestion in the area, and the $750 million Mayor’s message Butlers Reserve Works to refurbish clubrooms at the reserve include upgrades to the kitchen, change rooms, toilets and increased storage for local sporting clubs. The upgrades also include improvements to the general condition and accessibility of the clubrooms. The works are set for completion in late June 2019. Upgrades are underway to boost the overall look of the centre’s sports stadium for sports events and presentations. Making access improvements to the adjacent mezzanine viewing area, including a new elevator, are also part of the works taking shape. Works are due for completion in March 2019. Robinson Reserve Master Plan (Tuart Hill) Work to improve local sporting and recreational opportunities for the community start this year. The upgrades include a new barbecue and picnic area, shelters and seating, a revamped playground, updated public toilets and an improved path network. redevelopment of Westfield Innaloo will start to take shape. I will continue campaigning for light rail to connect at both the Glendalough and Stirling heavy rail stations and follow a route down Scarborough Beach Road. This would ultimately link the Perth CBD and Stirling City Centre to the redeveloped Scarborough Beach precinct. Lastly, I hope you can come along to this year’s Harmony Day Celebration for our Guinness World Records Title attempt for the most nationalities in a drum circle. See page 3 for details.

Stirling City Centre The Stirling City Centre project is the City’s number one priority and our community will start to see this area undergo a transformation in the near future. A number of exciting developments are planned to create a vibrant and accessible urban centre, which will become Perth’s second CBD. Stage one of the project involves construction of the Stephenson reduce congestion and unlock vital vacant land for development. This new development will feature a mix of residential and commercial opportunities with a variety of housing types and a town centre that includes the Westfield Innaloo $750 million redevelopment as well as shops, cafes and alfresco dining. Work on the detailed designs for stage one has started, with construction of the Stephenson Avenue extension scheduled to get underway this year. This will pave the way for delivery of light rail from the Stirling City Centre to Scarborough Beach, proposed in stage two. Avenue extension and a new freeway interchange that will

North Beach foreshore A feasibility study to determine the location of a new public toilet on the foreshore is underway and construction works are set to start by July 2019. Princess Wallington Reserve (Balga) The City has completed the design phase of the Princess Wallington Community Parkland project. Next, design consultant Ecoscape will assist with work required to prepare for the tendering process in mid-2019. Construction is currently scheduled to start in late 2019. Lotterywest has provided a $2.34m grant for the project and the City will fund the balance of the $7.3m budget. On completion, the project will deliver a new skate facility, multi-court sports area, BMX track, regional playground and more. These new recreational activities will be supported by open spaces with park amenities such as barbeque and picnic areas, public toilets, shelters and seating. The City will advertise when a planned community information session will be held regarding progress on the project and its design.

Be part of a Guinness World Records Title attempt during the Harmony Day Celebration at The Square Mirrabooka on Friday 15 March. This year, we hope to break the record for the most nationalities in a drum circle and there’s no previous drumming experience required. With the City of Stirling being such a multicultural community, we must be in with a real chance of breaking the existing record.
