Informing strategies and plans: Local Planning Strategy

The Local Planning Strategy is a fundamental component of the City’s planning framework. It is a high-level strategic document which sets the direction and actions for land use change and development over the next 10 to 15 years.

The City is required to review its local planning framework every five years to determine if is fit for purpose or if it should be modified. In the five years since the City’s last review in 2019, there have been significant changes to state legislation and the City’s Local Planning A new Local Planning Strategy is required and will be prepared to ensure endorsement aligns with the gazettal of the City’s new Local Planning Scheme No4. The City’s current Local Planning Strategy map outlines strategic opportunities for current and future development. Framework, as well as demographics, development trends and forecasts.

The Local Planning Strategy also provides a way to interpret state and regional strategies and policies at the local level. In doing so, it allows the City to appropriately plan and manage population growth. It sets the long term strategic direction for a range of topics influencing and influenced by planning and development, including housing, activity and employment, transport and the environment. Importantly, the Local Planning Strategy provides a basis for any changes to zoning and development standards to be implemented by the City’s Local Planning Scheme. The City’s Local Planning Strategy seeks to: • Prioritise growth and investment in activity centres and along urban corridors • Keep the jobs we have now and grow them
