Big honour for migrant support services the United Nations Association of Australia - WA Division. During the past decade, the City has collaborated with the group in planning and implementing annual dune restoration and revegetation programs along the bulk of the City’s 6.5km stretch of coastline. A core group of 25 members along with hundreds of volunteers share a mutual love for the coast and dedicate about 2,000 hours to local environmental projects each year.

A national award from the Migration Council Australia has recognised the City’s efforts to create thriving communities that support migrants and refugees. The Welcoming Australia Award for Local Government singled out the City’s Multicultural Framework. Being WA’s most diverse local government, the City developed the framework to deliver programs that foster a sense of community for newcomers. In addition, a Welcome Hub in Mirrabooka supports the settlement of humanitarian arrivals during their first five years in Australia.
