Firebreak Safety Property owners are required to install and maintain firebreaks from 30 November 2018 through to 31 March 2019. Owners of land less than 2,000sqm must slash/ mow all grass to a height no greater than 5 centimetres and remove all slashed greenery and other flammable material from the land. All other property owners must ensure that a 3-metre cleared perimeter free of all combustible material is in place. Switched on to Energy Savings The energy savings keep coming with recent upgrades to Stirling Community Centres – Scarborough and Stirling Leisure Centres – Hamersley. New energy efficient lighting at the Scarborough venue will cut greenhouse gas emissions by 32 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and save the City about $20,000 in annual running costs. A new rooftop solar system added to the Hamersley venue now supplies a third of the energy needed to power the entire centre. The new 85-panel solar system atop the sports hall will save the City about $11,000 in energy costs each year and pay for itself in just two and a half years. The system will also cut annual greenhouse gas emissions by 30 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

Free CompostingWorkshop The City is offering residents a free workshop on worm farming, composting and bokashi in North Beach on 2 March 2019. Learn practical and easy ways to compost, create a worm farm and use a bokashi bucket for all spaces from window sills to big backyards. Discover how to use meat, fish bones and out of date cheeses in a composting system.You can also set up your very own worm farm and take away enough fat worms to get started. Cat and Dog Registrations All dogs older than three months and cats over the age of six months must be registered with the City. With the 2018 renewal date now history, avoid a fine by registering your pet now!
