City of Stirling Handy Services Guide
V Verges
The verge is the area of public land located between a street kerb line and the boundary of an adjoining property. Verges establish an area for street trees, lawns and gardens which soften the landscape and accommodate overhead and underground utilities such as power, water, and gas and communications infrastructure. Parking The City’s Parking Local Law is designed to manage vehicle parking. A driver cannot park on a verge: • Without the consent of the adjacent land owner or property occupier • Contrary to parking signage, or • Park a commercial vehicle, bus, trailer or caravan unattached from a motor vehicle. Unless you are the owner/occupier of the premises immediately adjacent to a verge or have been authorised to do so by the owner/occupier, a person must not stop a vehicle (other than a bicycle) on a verge. Please refer to the City’s Parking Local Laws on the City’s website for more information. Verge treatment Property owner/occupiers are not permitted to prune or remove street trees from the verge surrounding their property. If a tree needs to be pruned/removed, a request stating the reason can be submitted in writing via the City’s online enquiry form. The placement of rocks or star pickets on the verge is also prohibited as these may cause damage to property or persons. The property owner/occupier is responsible for all verge maintenance works such as weeding, mulching, edging, mowing and repairing the verge treatment. Prior to any modifications to the verge such as planting vegetation, installing materials, building or demolition work, the proposed changes must comply with the City’s Verge Treatment Policy. For more information on the policy visit the City’s website.
