City of Stirling Handy Services Guide
Volunteering Volunteers provide a vital link to essential services for the frail and disabled within the City of Stirling. Volunteering is a choice, but is a rewarding experience for those who are interested. If you would like to become a volunteer, visit the City’s website for information about how to apply. W Waste Services Asbestos Asbestos disposal facilities are not provided by the City, please contact Mindarie Regional Council directly on (08) 9306 6303. Battery recycling services Discarded batteries can present dangers to personal health and the environment. The City of Stirling encourages residents to separate batteries from everyday waste and drop them off at one of the City’s recycling collection points. You can recycle car batteries, dry cell batteries and mobile phone batteries at the locations listed below. Car batteries The City accepts car batteries at the Recycling Centre Balcatta. The lead and cases are recycled. It is important not to put these in your waste or recycling bins as they cause truck fires. Dry cell batteries Alkaline batteries are the most commonly used dry cell batteries in Australia, representing 80 per cent of discarded batteries. Alkaline batteries contain about 20 per cent (by weight) zinc, which can be recycled and used to coat steel products to prevent corrosion, to make metal automobile parts and to make fertiliser. Collect your used household batteries and drop them off in the special battery recycling bins located at:
• Balga Community Centre, 81 Camberwell Road, Balga • Bunnings Innaloo, Scarborough Beach Road, Innaloo
