Magpie swooping season The City would like to remind the community to take extra care when outdoors during magpie nesting season from September to November. Please do not provoke magpies as they swoop to protect their young. Please look out for any caution signage placed in our parks and reserves, stay clear of nesting sites and plan alternative routes. Visit www.stirling.wa.gov.au/magpies for more information. To report a swooping incident, phone the Customer Contact Centre on (08) 9205 8555.

See the Journey of Waste Have you ever wondered what happens to the waste from your red bin, yellow bin and green bin once it gets collected from your verge? Then wonder no further with the release of three short videos showing exactly where the contents ends up – The Journey of Waste. These informative videos show our community what collection, transport, processing and disposal processes the City currently undertakes and what happens to the material once collected from your household. Visit www.stirling.wa.gov.au/jow to watch the videos.

Tree-mendous honour Already a popular school holiday activity, the City’s annual Tree Trail program has won the ‘Community Based Initiative of the Year Award’ in the 2019 Parks & Leisure Australia Awards of Excellence. For the past couple of years, the program has offered children aged 4 to 11 years a fun way of learning about local trees.Youngsters have followed trails around Lake Gwelup and Carine Regional Open Space to discover interesting tree facts, find clues and solve a secret message to win a plant-able prize. The Stirling Tree Trail will be back next year.
